Religious Identities, Religious Congregations, and Social Change

In conjunction with the Summer Institute 2007, the Fourth International Conference on the Social Scientific Study of Religion in China was held on July 13-15, 2007 at Shanghai University. The theme of the conference was on “Religious Identities, Religious Congregations, and Social Change.”

About 200 scholars and graduate students have participated the conference. Several scholars were from the United States, Britain, France, Netherlands, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. About sixty established scholars or advanced graduate students submitted papers and made presentations. Some papers reported fieldwork studies of Chinese religions. Some papers focus on the theory of sociology of religion. Some papers were on the quantitive study of religion in China.
